We’ve all heard the oft-repeated quotation “It takes a whole village to raise a single child.” The truths that are inherent in these words apply directly to the role of a synagogue. Educating a Jewish child does require a community effort. The success of our educational program requires talented teachers and a solid curriculum. We are blessed to have both of these for the coming year. Yet, still more is needed in Jewish education. The reason is that what we are teaching goes beyond subject matter. We are teaching a way of life and a heritage that embraces our values, our daily behavior, our family life, our observances and much more.
As Jews we are required to teach by example as well as by word. The example is set by the entire congregation and by how the children and their families are integrated into the life of the congregation. For this reason, we are expanding our family and multigenerational activities and look forward to your participation and support.
Our children will learn a great deal in our Hebrew and Religious School classes. For their studies to become truly meaningful they must be part of their daily lives. Home observance and synagogue and festival participation are essential components of your child’s Jewish education.
Our theme as well as our goal for the coming year is a continuation of Living and Learning our Jewish Values. We look forward to the success of our partnership in this sacred endeavor.
