Please make your reservations today to join us this Saturday evening, December 13th, in welcoming in the new week at Havdalah services.
Held at sunset on Saturday, Havdalah service marks the end of Shabbat and the beginning of a new week. It is a beautiful service including prayer, music, wine, a box of aromatic spices and a special braided candle.
On the second Saturday evening of the each month, we will be holding Havdalah services at the United Jewish Center, with a kosher dairy potluck dinner before the service and dessert after. Each guest family will bring an entree or salad, please call Stacey Spilka for an assigned dish to bring.
Our next Havdalah service is planned for December 13, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the downstairs auditorium at the synagogue.

The UJC brotherhood will be going to the Danbury Mad Hatters v. New Jersey Rockhoppers on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 5:00pm. The reserved tickets are $12. Please send a check made payable to the UJC Brotherhood to Alan V. Wunsch, 42 Tucker Street, Danbury, CT 06810 by December 28th for each ticket. Once Alan receives your check he will contact you about getting you your tickets. Depending on the number of people who are interested we might try to grab a bite to eat prior to the game. In the name of United Jewish Center membership, with your contributions to our Tikvah Fund, the Social Action Committee is sponsoring three needy local students in the Dress for Success Program providing funds for back to school clothes and supplies.
Hunger does not go on vacation. Don't forget to contribute 3% of the cost of food for your family celebrations and our synagogue events to Mazon so we can continue to support our efforts at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House and elsewhere in the community.
Remember those less fortunate!

Genesis 32:4-13
4 Jacob sent messengers ahead to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom, 5 and instructed them as follows, "Thus shall you say, 'To my lord Esau, thus says your servant Jacob: I stayed with Laban and remained until now; 6 I have acquired cattle, asses, sheep, and male and female slaves; and I send this message to my lord in the hope of gaining your favor.'" 7 The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, "We came to your brother Esau; he himself is coming to meet you, and there are four hundred men with him." 8 Jacob was greatly frightened; in his anxiety, he divided the people with him, and the flocks and herds and camels, into two camps, 9 thinking, "If Esau comes to the one camp and attacks it, the other camp may yet escape."
10 Then Jacob said, "O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Lord, who said to me, 'Return to your native land and I will deal bountifully with you'! 11 I am unworthy of all the kindness that You have so steadfastly shown Your servant: with my staff alone I crossed this Jordan, and now I have become two camps. 12 Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; else, I fear, he may come and strike me down, mothers and children alike. 13 Yet You have said, 'I will deal bountifully with you and make your offspring as the sands of the sea, which are too numerous to count.'"
