Our 6th & 7th grade students will be unloading the Marcus Dairy Truck at the St. James Food Pantry on Wednesday, October 29th at 4:30 p.m. Thanks to all for this wonderful mitzvah!
Maimonides Academy of Western Connecticut will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a cocktail reception, entertainment, both a silent and live auction on Sunday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield. At the reception, four honorees will be recognized for their integral roles in the Academy's foundation and success. Among those being honored is our very own UJC congregant, Sara Kruzansky along with Dr. Alvin Goldman, founder, Bea Golub, and Rabbi Jon Haddon. Maimondies' goal is to provide their students with an excellent education integrating Judaic and general studies and fostering individual and social development in an environment that instills learning as a positive experience. The children are taught Tikun Olam, literally "fixing the world" and it shows everyday in their interactions with each other and the world around them.
Tickets are still available at $100 each. The auctions consist of (30) items ranging from a rare case of Tuscan wine to a family summer getawayat Smuggler's Notch, VT. The proceeds from the evening will directly impact the continuation of the scholarship fund as well as provide for new equipment for the computer lab. The UJC Religious School is collecting new or gently used books to donate to those less fortunate in grades 1 -4 (ages 6-9) as part of the Danbury Jewish Coalition for Literacy Reading Partners. All topics are welcome; fiction and non-fiction, chapter books.
On Sunday, November 23rd from 11 till 5, the UJC will be holding their Holiday Boutique. There will be jewelry, arts and crafts, food, and music…something for everyone! There's free admission, so come do your shopping at the Holiday Boutique!

In the name of United Jewish Center membership, with your contributions to our Tikvah Fund, the Social Action Committee is sponsoring three needy local students in the Dress for Success Program providing funds for back to school clothes and supplies.
Hunger does not go on vacation. Don't forget to contribute 3% of the cost of food for your family celebrations and our synagogue events to Mazon so we can continue to support our efforts at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House and elsewhere in the community.
Remember those less fortunate!

Join us for our Simchat Torah celebration and block party on Monday, October 20! Simchat Torah/Shemini Atzeret tefillah, including yizkor, will be on Tuesday, October 21 at 10 am.
While Shemini Atzeret's significance is somewhat unclear, Simchat Torah conveys a clear message about the centrality of Torah in Jewish life. It is both a source of Jewish identity and a precious gift from God. Simchat Torah is the day on which the whole community gathers to come into direct contact with the Torah and to express our joy in having received it.
