Please join us this Saturday evening, August 9th, in welcoming in the new week at Havdalah services.
Held at sunset on Saturday, Havdalah service marks the end of Shabbat and the beginning of a new week. It is a beautiful service including prayer, music, wine, a box of aromatic spices and a special braided candle.
On the second Saturday evening of the each month, we hold Havdalah services at the United Jewish Center, with a kosher dairy potluck dinner before the service and dessert after. Each guest family will bring an entree or salad, please call Stacey Spilka for an assigned dish to bring.
Our next Havdalah service is planned for August 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the downstairs auditorium at the synagogue.

Anyone interested in helping with the Synagogue's Simchat Torah Celebration, to be held on Monday, October 20th, should contact Debby Pollack Wollman at 203-270-1894 or debra.pollack@charter.net. Assistance is needed in planning the event, setting up on the day of the event, staffing the event itself and clean-up afterwards.

The UJC Open House will start at 6PM. Prospective members will have a chance to meet with the membership committee to answer questions and get a tour of the building. At 6:30 PM they will join us for services and get a first hand experience of what a Friday night service is like at the UJC.

On behalf of the New England Jewish Music & Art Festival Jewishfest, we would like to invite you to their festival. This will be held over Labor Day weekend (Sunday, August 31st 11:30-7:00 and Monday, September 1st 11:30-5:00); in Litchfield, CT. There will be the best Jewish Music, Art, Crafts and Deli in the Northeast, as well as free admission, entertainment and parking. Please remember to register your children prior to the July 1, 2008 deadline date. Children will not be registered until all registration papers are submitted along with a $100 deposit per child.
Additional registration fees ($50 per child) will be applied after the July 1st deadline; no exceptions to this additional assessment, including those receiving special financial consideration.
With the exception of preschool, you must be members in good standing (your account must be current) to register for UJC Religious School.
All completed registration papers are to be submitted with your deposit money to the office upstairs. Paperwork and deposits are not to be left with Daryl Bain or Rita Lukchis, please leave these items for Laura Morris, Office Manager.

One of the best preschool programs in the Danbury area can be found on Sunday mornings at the UJC Religious School. This pre-kindergarten class of 3 and 4 year olds enjoys an outstanding Let's Experience Judaism Program. Under the talented direction of Sheryl Abelson, the program uses an experiential approach to the Jewish festivals, the synagogue and the Torah. This exciting program is available to both members and non members so please help us spread the word to all your Jewish friends and family in the greater Danbury area. In the name of United Jewish Center membership, with your contributions to our Tikvah Fund, the Social Action Committee is sponsoring three needy local students in the Dress for Success Program providing funds for back to school clothes and supplies.
Hunger does not go on vacation. Don't forget to contribute 3% of the cost of food for your family celebrations and our synagogue events to Mazon so we can continue to support our efforts at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House and elsewhere in the community.
