Please join us next Friday, may 9, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. as we celebrate and honor the UJC adult choir.
Every Monday from August through May these men and women meet at the UJC.
On Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Chanukah and each month, they join Rabbi Librach and Cantor Kessler to help make Shabbat worship spiritual and lively.
Please join us as the UJC celebrates and thanks the men and women of the UJC Adult Choir for their dedication to our Shabbat worship.
The Letter Carriers will be collecting non-perishable food items like canned soup, juices, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice on Saturday, May 10th to help families in need in our community. You can help by placing your food donations at your mailbox on May 10th before your letter carrier arrives. The food will be delivered to local food banks.
Held at sunset on Saturday, Havdalah service marks the end of Shabbat and the beginning of a new week. It is a beautiful service including prayer, music, wine, a box of aromatic spices and a special braided candle.
On the second Saturday evening of the each month, we will be holding Havdalah services at the United Jewish Center, with a kosher dairy potluck dinner before the service and dessert after. Each guest family will bring an entree or salad, please call Stacey Spilka for an assigned dish to bring.
Our next Havdalah Service will be on Saturday, May 10, 2008 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the UJC. Please join us. Held at sunset, Havdalah marks the end of Shabbat and the beginning of a new week. We will be participating in a region wide celebration with a live concert with David Broza to be held on Sunday, May 25th 2008 at the Wilton High School Athletic Complex, 395 Danbury Road, Wilton Connecticut.

Thanks to Cantor Penny and our UJC teens and parents who participated in sandwich making for the Dorothy Day Hospitality House this past Wednesday.
Thanks also to all the children in our Religious School who gave their outgrown books to the Federation sponsored Reading Partners Program in the Danbury Public Schools. The Children are enjoying the books with their adult reading partners and taking them home to share with their families. It has been such a successful way to foster the joy of reading!
When you shop for toothpaste, shampoo and soap or have travel size toiletries to share remember those who are needy. Personal care items for The Interfaith AIDS ministry and old cell phones, used only for emergencies at the Women's Center, can be left in the basket by the stairs on the first floor.
Social Action projects are funded by your contributions to the United Jewish Center Tikvah Fund and Mazon.
Remember and honor family and friends with a donation to the Tikvah Fund and contribute 3% of the cost of the food at family and synagogue celebrations to help feed the needy at the Dorothy Day Hospitality House soup kitchen.
Remember those less fortunate!
Please don’t forget to drop off person care items for the Interfaith AIDS Ministry and old cell phones for the Women’s Center on the bin in the synagogue in the downstairs hallway.

Lev. 25:
1 The Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai: 2 Speak to the Israelite people and say to them: When you enter the land that I assign to you, the land shall observe a sabbath of the Lord. 3 Six years you may sow your field and six years you may prune your vineyard and gather in the yield. 4 But in the seventh year the land shall have a sabbath of complete rest, a sabbath of the Lord: you shall not sow your field or prune your vineyard. 5 You shall not reap the aftergrowth of your harvest or gather the grapes of your untrimmed vines; it shall be a year of complete rest for the land. 6 But you may eat whatever the land during its sabbath will produce - you, your male and female slaves, the hired and bound laborers who live with you, 7 and your cattle and the beasts in your land may eat all its yield.
